Just a quick few questions,
I’m from Wisconsin and have all the basic certs (FF 1&2, EMT B, Dive rescue, and Haz-mat ops) and just got accepted into nursing school at Northern Arizona University, while a career firefighter is my end goal, nursing is my contingency plan. So, with that in mind, does anyone have any inside information on the future hiring’s of departments in AZ? Also, would it be better for me to do medic then nursing or just stick with nursing and bridge over after I earn my RN? Anyone with a similar situation experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It is a 4 year bachelors, but I should be able to do it in 3 with my transfer credits. And not sure about other areas, but around here medics can skip some clinicals on nursing and if you are a RN you can take a bridge course that is basically a shortened medic class; aprox 8-10 weeks depending on how many hours a week, they don’t have them very often though.

I'm not too sure on the bridge program from RN to medic here in Arizona.
But some rumors are for hiring that El Mirage is picking up 2 in January. Phoenix is re testing in spring of 2013, supposedly they are taking a huge number of new hires. Surprise wants to hire but they don't know when they will test or how many they are hiring (I've heard 6-12). Depends on their Ambo situation.
