You have to remember, not only did LA and I bridge the divide of entirely opposite firefighting Philosophies, but he was also a Romney supporter. Talk about hands across the aisle Brother!!
That dude outed himself with his first post here http://www.firehouse.com/forums/t118735-46/#post1344020
Guess this is him; http://www.trainweb.org/chris/ for his linked picture is from this page. Reading this page and its first link to his story explains a lot if it is the same guy.
I would doubt that is him since he said he doesn't travel more than 15 minutes from home...EVER!!
I hate to rain the parade, but his last banning was only a few days. Does that mean he will get a third chance?
Followed by I noticed that his little side kick was once again listed as a forum member. Anyone that wishes that someone would die in a fire does not deserve a second chance.
just bee-boping on in after stopping here first and then reading the pager thread...WOW .............that is all..........glad I am at work ..........Hugs to La and Fyred ............. way to hug it out Brithers ! :D
(a) Maybe those fora attract a less tech savvy clientele than most.
(b) Maybe those fora have no idea how many innocent users they've locked out as collateral damage.
(c) Maybe those fora are more actively moderated so you can't spot spammers and serial trolls as easily.
My money is on (c) because, as a former web server administrator, I know for a fact that user=/=IPaddress and IPaddress=/=user. Blocking an IP address just blocks an address that could be assigned to any number of different people at any given time; it doesn't block a specific user.
If blocking an IP happens to cause a user any inconvenience at all, it's trivial and only the most technically illiterate users will be unable to get around the block with ease. Let's just think a moment about any of our usual suspects here at FH.com/forums and guess how long it would take any of them to get around an IP block. (Hint: Not very long at all.)
One way that many fora, etc, deal with spammers is by including some method of testing for humans, ie, "Captcha" or its equivalents when prospective members sign up.
There is actually a high percentage of moderators on the local board, as compared to the number of users, so we are able to manage problems fairly quickly. The admins usually make short work of posters who are either a problem at the outset or prove themselves to be such after a short time on the board.
If he were Irish, he'd be Baggy O'D ouche.
