Volunteers are usually residents that have pagers and respond from home. No formal training required, only what the department provides. Some get paid per call.
Interns can can be considered employees that works shifts at the station. They may not need to be a resident. They may have to have completed a fire academy, EMT, CPR. On Firerecruit.com for Fort Jones their interns get paid per call they respond to.
