Good Lord nothing like a 60 degree shift in Temperature in one day to shiver your timbers. 90 miles across snow covered farm land; thought I was going to need a Ski-Doo.

Well I think mother nature is going to punish me this time. Gone form winter storm warning to "blizzard warning"; not looking to good for having to drive 120 miles to Minneapolis on Monday morning to escape this deep freeze. On the other hand Schell's bock beer fest is some mighty fine beer let me tell you. So good night to watch the blizzard from inside the hotel bar. Bartender set me up with some antifreeze please.

I figured you were in New England with the 3 ft + of snow we had Kurt.
    Still digging out.
Had to get a backhoe to come and dig our road out. 7 foot drift for about 40 yards.

Well hopefully by now you have had time to dig out islandfire. Barely got out by skin of my teeth in Russell, PA last week by driving 2 hours to airport in Erie, PA at 1:00AM to beat the "coming blizzard" but, apparently it fizzled out also. Your safe for a couple weeks till I head out in March to Ft Wayne, IN on March 5. Watch out around March 10th though, headed to Epping, NH so don't put the shovel away quite yet! BTW anyone interested in doing an AFG Super Summit this year John Lyman has offered to host it in Waterford, MI in late April. Touch base with me if interested or you need information on it.

Just added another class for Spring Hill , Tennessee on April 19-20th.

Also looks like John Lyman in Waterford, MI is going to host the AFG Super Summit this year on April 25-27 and yes i know FDIC is the same weekend but, are you going to go to the show and just walk around and drool over all the neat equipment and gadgets or do you come and insure that you have the money to actually buy the stuff? LOL!

Just heard from another 2012 AFG Super Summit attendee who won $917,707 this morning for a regional SCBA! Last years class pushing well over a $10 million mark in funding for those attendees. 2013 AFG Super Summit just around the corner folks!

You mean 1199A? Wasn't any regionals of that amount this morning. Good deal either way, just wondering if their system is screwed up again and not posting all the awardees.

Oops my bad, they got their ops grant awarded today and the 1199a for the regional posted this morning also. Gotta learn to follow my own advice and read my emails more closely.

Keeping a close eye on it now. I have a 4 x 4 reserved at O'Hare in case I have to drive in but, not once since 2004 have I ever NOT been in front of the class at the appointed time and this one is going to be no different. I may have to drive through a 5 hour snow storm event to get there but, never count me out... if I'm there everyone else better be also. It was 34 degrees here in Fla this morning so not much temp change. I think Mother Nature was just getting me pre-shilled for the next several days. Monitor me on fh.com or Facebook tomorrow as we fight our way in to Ft Wayne.

I'll be driving in also, but only about an hour out. Hoping they are off on the snow fall amount, they seem to be batting about 50% on their forcast.

Well Ft Wayne was cold and snowy but my word what a fabulous training facility and what a good class we had here; thanks Ft Wayne FD for providing a great venue for this last class. Time to pack it up and wing it south today and then right back out and back to the deep freeze of New Hampshire once again in Epping FD for a two day class on March 12th -13th. Looking forward to another huge bowl of the best clam chowder in NE at The River House in Portsmouth. Yum yum! Still room for more students in Epping if you sign up before Monday.

    Default AFG Super Summit 2013

For those experienced and previously experienced Fire Act grant writers the annual 2013 AFG Super Summit is being held at Waterford FD halfway between Flint and Detroit, MI on April 25-27th. Come and join in this 3-day "brain trust" and "think tank" of some of the most successful Fire Act grant writers in the US as we develop and improve your 2013 submission to the AFG program. The recent sequestration letter and which has resulted in additional funding cuts to FEMA grants, makes it imperative that you turn in a A+ application. This gathering of minds can help you to improve and submit that type of application giving you a competitive edge. For further information and to register go here:

Hey folks next up is Spring Hill TN on April 19th -20th. We need two more students to make this happen for the others that have signed up to attend. Spring Hill is about 30 miles south of Nashville and at this time of year will be just blooming out and greening up. If you were the recent, unfortunate recipient of a computer DJ letter, time to get in to one of the few remaining classes left for this year and find out how to change that situation around before 2013 AFG opens for apps. Should be a great class.

AFG recent announcement of their timeline for opening of 2013 AFG looks like it is going to be summer again. That means I will have time to put a couple more classes in for those of you that may be wanting to attend but didn't see a class nearby. If you are interested in hosting a class, and getting your seats free, give me a shout at 863-551-9598.

    Ladies and Germs:

I'm trying to talk Kurt into coming to Texas for a class. FEMA's computer (some kind of Buttkicker 2000) continues to treat me bad. If anybody is interested in attending, please let me know. My email is jmathiews at msn.com, or my mobile is 940- five five O - 8760.
