This year, Christmas came early for me when I found out about a week ago that I was being offered a firefighter job in a large, well-respected Southern city. It did not seem real until I made it through the rigorous medical screening a few days ago. I am beside myself, but I am holding off celebration until I make it through the academy and my probationary year.
Since 2008, I have been testing here and there to try to get on with a large department with no avail. I was able to work at two smaller departments the past several years, but I was always hungry for more. In January, I made it my mission to get my dream job, regardless of the cost or burden on my schedule. After pouring in a lot of time and treasure, I made it happen. I owe thanks to God because, through Him, all things are possible. I also owe thanks to co-workers, family and friends who have always been there for me in good times and bad. I also owe many thanks to the men and women on this board for their advice and counsel over the years on the forums and through private messaging. For the few who blew me off when I was seeking your counsel, you showed me what not to be as a person and as a firefighter and hardened my desire to help others obtain the greatest job in the world. For that, I thank you.
To the men and women, still trying to get their dream job, never give up! I am living proof that if one wants something bad enough, it will happen at the right time. You're going to be shot down by departments. You're going to be passed over for not being a local. You're going to wonder where you went wrong after nailing interviews, but don't despair. There is a greater plan at work and you and the right fire department have to find one another at the right time. Thank you Firehouse Forums for being such an asset over the years.
Good luck and never, ever give up!

Congrats man. Welcome to the club. And on the celebrating part...do it after you start don't wait until your probationary period is over. You need to celebrate the fact you got a career and all the har work you've put in so far and what's to come. Again brother congrats!
