How many people are or will be applying for the grant this year? If so what are you applying for? My department is considering applying for a Digital Fire Extinguisher Simiulator along with fire prevention material. I'm just concerned that project wouldn't get fund after reviewing and reading all the information on the grant. Looking for some help?

Ktb this is something that our department has considered to apply for the last several years but due to previous officer's it was deemed not necessary, after doing an informal assessment like is recommended by the grant documents and reviewing this information with the new officer's they want to apply for this grant. My only concern is that it seems to me that the highest priority project is a smoke detector program and installation. That's my concern at this point.

Smoke & CO detectors have always been the highest priority with FP, most direct way to ensure residents are alerted to issues in time to escape. In theory this isn't as big of an issue in newer homes since it's been a code requirement for many moons to have wired systems installed. Our old house was built in 1982 and had them in it but around here it seems to have been the way to do things for a long time. Other areas it's a more recent movement from builders, but either way it's still an issue in a lot of areas. We still get funding for all types of projects every year including extinguisher trainers, address sign projects, safety trailers & props, etc. Unfortunately we in the fire service as a collective tend to treat fire prevention as the 2nd red-headed stepchild behind EMS so there generally isn't much interest in the FP topic overall, let along for grants. App #'s hadn't broken 200 as of yesterday morning when I saw #180 go in. Sort of like IT in the private sector, when budgets are tight FP is the first thing cut and the last thought for grant money. Until something happens that is...
