Hello Everyone,
New to the Firehouse forum. Resume: I am sure like a lot of people, I started out as an explorer when I was 13 in a smaller town FD in AZ, also a reserve FF. Loved riding along and getting a feel for the daily life as a FF...(morning routine, equipment checks, etc) and just loved it. I graduated HS in 2003 and immediately got my EMT-B and worked on an ambulance for a year. My goal: to be a fireman. I also wanted to serve in the military.
So I joined in 2005 and was stationed on a ship for my first 2 years. Learned a lot more about firefighting, training classes, etc. I also wanted to be a medic. So I became a Hospital Corpsman. Worked in the ER at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, was the section leader and trained many awesome corpsman. And from there, worked at Camp Pendleton with 1st MARDIV. In 2010 I received my honorable discharge to go back to school and pursue my goal.
So here I am. I am in a Paramedic program in Minneapolis and testing for Minneapolis Fire at the end of the month. Currently have my EMT-B. Completely clean backround across the board. I wanted to gain some life experience and grow while I was serving in the greatest military in the world. I am 28 years old, hopeful that is not too old!? Am I off to a good start?
Humbly hope to get some good responses from anyone with experience!
Be safe.
Sam

It sounds to me that you are on a good track. I would not worry about your age I was hired at 27 and there are people that I know that have been hired in their 30s.

I was also a corpsman on camp pen. You are off to a good start. 28 is not to old at all, most guys don't get hired until they are at least that age. I would recommend chief Lepore's books, they really helped me. Also, talk to guys at your local stations they'll be more than happy to help.
