I know one department that has gone to it locally, (due to cost) and they are NOT happy with the wear it takes.
Morning Pride.
/ thread.
That's what we got last time around, I don't like it at all. It's fairly comfortable but the wear is terrible. My set is 2008 and it has seen maybe 25 structure fires, 5 or 6 live burn trainings, and most of the other work its seen has been light, and it is about worn out. I follow the care instructions but it is just not holding up. It was cheap, and I can see why. I would go with something else if I could.
If we are picking choices, I would go for Globe Xtreme...
Globe Xtreme, then Bristol, then Morning Pride. I could wear any of these and be happy.
My department uses Veridian... mixed feelings about it. Wear is a problem. Howerver we did have a pair sent back recently which was warrantied. I would get as much material on the knees as possible, as that seems to be one of the worst areas...
Just out of curiosity, why would Veridian gear wear faster if they are buying their fabric from the same mills as the other manufacturers? After all, Veridian doesn't make the fabric.
I can see where fit or design might be different but the wear characteristics of the fabric should be the same from one mfgr. to the next since it is all woven buy the same company.
Probably the weight of the material as Fyred has mentioned, and may also have to do with the stitching and how the seams are put together.
I have 2 sets of Veridian gear, a 2009 set and a 2012 set. My 2009 set has seen a lot of use and abuse and is still in good shape. My new set hasnt seen any use. I only have 2 dislikes about it. It is heavy and takes forever to break in, but once its broke in its very comfortable if you get past how heavy it is. We do have the built in bailout harness between the inner and outer layers, which is part of the reason the reason it is so heavy. If I remember right they have like 3 "grades" of gear and we bought the middle one..... Overall I am happy with my gear, and the only complaint of heard around here is how heavy it is and I know of at least 4 other local companies that have it.
We went with Valor Line( there Best), I have been happy with it, Its like everything else if you use it hard its gonna wear out. But for the price and product i have been very happy.
Thank you all for the input. Looks like Globe is the is direction were going in.
