Bin Rescue Footholds

For those departments that are trained in bin rescue, what do you use to stand on while in a bin? It has been suggested to use the plastic crates that will hold about eight two-liter soda bottles. These would work, but they take up quite a bit of room on the truck. We've contemplated using squares of plywood, but thought they might get slippery when they get some grain on the top.

Also considered finding some old plastic bread trays or even some hog farrowing crate flooring. (If we could get rid of the smell!)

Wondering if anyone had any favorites they would share? Thanks.

I know, that is an option, but they get really slippery when they get a little grain on top of them.

Traction Tape the bottom side of your backboard, Flip them over when you get inside your Bin. Are you guys Going in on ropes?

We use it what you already talked about. The Soda Crates are Free and when they're stacked on top of each other really dont take up all that much room.

we actually keep ours strapped to the inside "curve" of our Grain tube. Sits in there nicely and doesnt take up any more "real estate" that the tube is using.

Some Bins are to small to get the backboards "layed" out to even stand on.

Our backboards are part of a multi-county EMS system. We swap them out with the transporting ambulance whenever we use one of ours. Would likely take an act of Congress to put tape on all of them.

Yes, ropes from the top. Hopefully tied off to an aerial.

I hadn't thought of this. Our brand of tube stacks inside a large bag. There probably would be room between the "steps" on each panel. I'll have to look at that... Thanks!

Glad I could help. One thing we started doing is trimming down the "corners" that were higher than the rest of the "spikes" just to make everything fit in a little tighter space.
