Capt as always your VA knowledge is great. I'm assuming that if you don't have EMT-B they'll train you but the likelihood of being hired without it is going to be the vital factor.

They put you through the academy.. It doesn't matter what you have or what you don't have they'll hire you. This is a very large department lots of room for personal and professional growth, they are serious about taking care of their firefighters and give them plenty of opportunities to grow. If you're looking for a well paying firefighting job with excellent benefits, this is the place to go.

Are ALS services separate from the fire dept.?

ALS is part of the department. Some engines, trucks, and ambulances are ALS, depending on the department needs.

I tried looking on there websites for this info I'm most likely not looking in the right spot so if anyone can help me out.... whats staffing like on apparatus ( i.e engine truck ambo). looks like 21 stations all look to be up to date. as a combo dept i assume Paid and Vol staff work well together? any input would be great!

Engine and Trucks all ride with a minimum of three, although selected engines are dedicated four-person minimum. Ambulances ride with two.
The stations and equipment are all in good repair, although some of them are older (Companies 1, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 come to mind).
Companies 6 & 10 are all-volunteer.
I deal with CFEMS routinely through my part-time job, and I've found that for the most part, the career/volunteer relationship is solid. This is a very professional department.Career Fire Lieutenant

All career Engines (19 of them) are ALS. As far as career/volunteer relationships, it depends on the person. Chesterfield has become a career dept that has some volunteers. For a volunteer ambulance or Engine to be In service they have to be staffed in quarters, and they have to follow the same rules as the career side. Currently there are some 4 man engines that are staffed through a safer grant, that will end in July then all engines/trucks will have a crew of 3.
