Water Rescue Training
My name is Gary Hoffmann. I am an interior firefighter with Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company located in Monroe County, PA. We have created a committee to start a water rescue team. We recieved money from the camps in our jurisdiction and has matched the money with another nonprofit organization.
We are looking for the best and most cost efficient gear as well as a good training program. Can anyone help me as far as gear and/or finding an instructor?
do you have any water rescue teams near by that you can partner with to get started and get advice???
maybe share a boat for awhile
PA Water Rescue training programs are handled by the PA Fish and Boat Commission. The trainings are set up through whatever Community College you normally get fire/rescue training from, and they will have a list of PFBC certified instructors. As for equipment, start small and work up from there. A potential source of equipment is through USAR programs, however, you have to commit to your team being a regional asset.
The Army depot has a water rescue team, I believe Toby township does, or did at least. Contact bucks for an instructor. I think you need 10 people for a class..
This is the listed PA Fish and Boat Water Rescue evaluator for your county.

We used Scott Grahn from the PAFB who was an excellent instructor along with his adjunct instructors. I am sure he would be glad to assist or get you in the right direction.
