    Default Non Interior gear replacement????

If a fire fighter is not an Interior fire fighter "will NOT be going into a burning structure" does there turnout gear fall under the same 10 year gear retirement rule? We are being told 2 different thing's.

And trust me on this I'm from the if your standing on the outside looking in your just a spectator. but we have a lot of older guys in my volunteer dept that aren't fit for interior work and there gear is still like brand new after 10 years.

    Thanks for the help.

If they are outside only, judge it by the outer shell. All its really doing is functioning as a fire service Carhartt

they aren't the cheapest things, and I'm going to just admit it, I'm ASSuming that anyone asking about gear replacement for non-interior members is from a volunteer department, probably with some cash issue. Giving used gear to the yard guys is a lot more economical than buying them new gear or carhartts and vests.

If you can be 100% sure that nobody will ever wear that gear inside a burning building, I have zero problem keeping it in service. At that point it's more of a cold weather coat, or to protect your shoulders while throwing ladders.
The problem is that these people may lend out their coat to another interior ff who forgot his or something.

I would replace it just to be safe but no, external gear is not gonna fall apart from 10 years of light use.
