    That's a leadership issue.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

offer some interesting/relevant/fun training. And be a team , no career/volly references.

Perhaps the first step is not starting the conversation by implying that they don't want to train. Whether it is true or not, I don't know, but starting the conversation like that puts people on the defensive.

As mentioned above, it's mostly a leadership/organizational issue. There could be other facets as well.. for example in our case the schedules make things difficult. The 24-hour houses typically train some time in the AM so they can do it while they're fresh and get it out of the way early in their shift. The volunteer duty crews don't start until 6pm and usually don't get drills started until 7 or 7:30.. right when the other stations are about ready to relax for the evening. Perhaps something similar is going on in your case? If they have been doing training/inspections all afternoon and are just ready for some down time when you show up and want to pull hose I can see why they may be unenthusiastic.

We've had success with a 1x1 mentoring program lately. It's more for pairing up guys in the vol academy with paid guys, but it's hard to tell if it would work for your particular situation and dept without more details.

Our guys really get into it and make it a competition of sorts to see who can turn out the best probi. Just a thought.

I smell a troll. Why mention it's the "career" guys? Why not just ask the question? Just curious.

I don't know... I'll give him/her the benefit of the doubt.

... but, isn't it always the career guys on their butts?
