Default CITY OF DETROIT (why you should buy a home here if you want a job in the future)

Any questions feel free to contact me.

The city of Detroit is currently taking applications for DETROIT EMS. https://www.detroitmi.gov/Department...4/Default.aspx

Buy a house here with a couple of friends if you want residency credits. Otherwise, good luck on getting hired! This goes to all of those out there that are thinking of becoming firefighters here too. Buy a home as an investment in the city and an investment in a career that you are hoping for.

    Here is why you should.
DOMICILE CREDIT DEFINITION AND REQUIREMENTS FOR CITY OF DETROIT EMPLOYMENT APPLICANTS

The Detroit City Council amended Chapter 13 of the 1984 Detroit City Code “Civil Service and Personnel Regulations” to add Article I, Sections 13-1-6 through 13-1-9 to the following effect:

Domicile Credits for City of Detroit Employment Applicants
“Any individual whose domicile is in the City of Detroit twelve (12) months preceding the date of filing his or her application for employment and receives a passing score on the initial written competitive examination for entry into classified service shall have fifteen (15) points added to his or her final score in determining his or her eligibility for the position(s) sought.”

“Domicile” shall mean an individual’s fixed and permanent home to which one has the intention of returning whenever absent. An individual may only have one domicile.

“Final Score” shall mean the score of the applicant’s initial written competitive examination combined with the score of any other examination component as required by the department for which the employment is sought.

    Proof of Domicile
To prove domicile in the City of Detroit, an applicant must present proper identification in the form of a valid State of Michigan Operator License, or State of Michigan Identification Card, or a valid passport and submit at least one of the following forms of documentation with and at the time of examination or interview:

    • Copies of the front and signature pages of federal income tax return forms and/or W2 forms for the two years immediately preceding the date of application, or
    • Copies of City of Detroit property tax bill for the two years immediately preceding the date of application or
    • Copies of utility bills/statements addressed to the applicant that reflect billing/assessment dates twelve (12) months preceding the date of application or
    • Any other official documentation deemed sufficient by the Human Resources Department that would substantiate an applicant’s domicile as the City of Detroit twelve (12) months preceding the date of application. The Human Resources Department has deemed the following as acceptable documentation: Voter's Registration Card or High School students may present City of Detroit School Identification Cards.

That's a shame. There's a lot of laid off IAFF guys around this state that would probably love to have the opportunity to work for Detroit. Would be a nice career move for most.

hiring and the reason to have you live in the city are clear. it helps the tax base. this has been struck down in a few places.
detroit is in real trouble. a fleet that does not work. lots of fires with little help.
i have been to detroit a lot as my son lives south of the city. these firefighters are living on the edge every day.
i have offered the city a few plans to help dfd. the mayor seems to be away for ever.
buy the house live some where else.

Well, you do not have to live in the city anymore to be a city worker, but as you can see the city is offering a bonus for those who do live here.
There are many places to invest in a home here, especially the downtown neighborhoods.

Good info, thanks! Do you know if your final score can exceed 100%? i.e. 95% on test + 15% = 110% or does it cap at 100?
