Take some time to read the forums here and you'll pick up lots of info. The purpose of the AFG program is to replace unsafe equipment. Your request for $600,000 will never be funded for a basic engine. You will find that an adequate safe pumper can be purchased for less than half of that amount and AFG will only fund you for around that price.

There are limited funds for vehicles each year and they are extremely competitive grants. You definitely need to be on your A-game to have a successful vehicle award.

First let us know what your current fleet consists of (type and age) and several around here will be glad to give pointers.

With your newest pumper being a '95 and your oldest being an '89, you are a long, long shot to get a truck.

You classify the '95 as a rescue pumper with 500 gallons of water. Does it have a pump? If so, what size. If it has at least a 750 gpm or greater pump then it's classified a pumper. If that is the case, the AFG sees the department has 2 pumpers even though one isn't used for fires. This means the newest pumper is 18 years old with the pumper fleet with an ave. age of 21 years. The pumper request will not make it.

What is the year for the Mack tanker?

You need to sit back and read some of the older threads here and read the guidelines for the AFG program. They provide funding for basic firefighting equipment and trucks.

You can buy a 2000 gallon 1500 GPM engine for well under 300k .

That is the level of funding they will consider appropriate.

Based on the age of your current fleet , you will have a very slim chance of even making it past the computer scoring, so your app will not go to peer review. time to get some education on grant writing . It's about matching the request to the intents of the program.
There are many different factors in getting a grant award. Call volumes, population and demographics of your coverage area, budget funding levels, all factor into the scoring matrix for AFG.

None of us are trying to rain on your parade here. Just giving you a reality check.
