I don't believe there's been much detail released so far regarding the origin of the fire, operations leading up to the explosion, exactly how the explosion came to occur, etc. I'm not sure we know enough about what happened yet to have much of a meaningful discussion regarding the incident itself.

You're right, but generally it's still enough to at least bring out the trolls and safety sallies.

    I agree, well done.

Just returned from covering a small department in the area so they could support the memorial service and multiple funerals. Never have I seen a greater local out pouring of support. Countless people dropping by to thank us for our service and appreciate us helping out so the local departments could attend to West's needs. Never before have I seen the Czech bakery so packed, guess POTUS' plug for their kolaches during the speech gave a real stimulus to West's economy.

Default Damage to uprr line in west, tx.

The Texas State Railroad is sharing this photo of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas (now Union Pacific) main line at West, Texas which runs right by the fertilizer plant.

The Texas State Railroad credits the photo to a person named Ralph Dikes

Um, maybe they wished they had a "safety sallie". I have to say, most people I see using that term are advocating doing some pretty questionable practices. We've had a lot of hard lesson's learned in this vocation, belittling safety, especially after a multiple LODD, is not the most prudent thing IMHO.

Update from West TX. All of their equipment needs are being taken care of, according to the regional fire coordinator. It appears a major radio manufacturer will be providing them with new radios, and they are working on an engine.

West EMS, another volunteer organization there lost 2 ambulances, and 2 /3ds of their staff. They are in desperate need of an ambulance to replace one of these. They have the use of a 1999 model, but need another reliable rig.

They could also use stair chairs, and stretchers.

PLEASE, lets work through the regional coordinator. These are specific needs - your 1958 discomboobulater is NOT needed. They do not need to be inundated with stuff they do not need... Their words.

So can anyone help? Transportation can be taken care of... bbowers301@gmail.com

    THANKS

Hey $#!T for brains... leave your politics out of this, as it is a disservice to those who made the ultimate sacrifice trying to evacuate the residents.. something that you would not have the guts, the heart or the balls to do.

Well, to get things back on track, Guys, a great way to honor these fallen brothers is to learn from what happened to them. If you are on a dept. that doesn't do inspections, or in a jurisdiction that has weak or lax zoning, MAKE A CHANGE NOW!! You may have to **** off some local politicians, citizens, and businessmen, but if you are smart and present them with the facts, you just may save your own life. We don't have to let this kind of thing happen again.

Well, it kind of ****es me off too...this is the first that I have seen it, tho.

Be sarcastic about the remark, or my opinion. However, your post speaks volumes about you and your character.

I may or may not like the president. I may or may not have voted for him or support his policies. I sure the hell did support my brothers in West, TX. Still do. I will always remember.

Why again, are you in this field? It is obvious you are miles apart from any one else in any ideology...

Contrary to popular beiief, Bobby these forums do not revolve around you and your cockamamie ideas of firefighting. I saw you comment for the first time the other day.

My post about you not doing what these 12 fallen brothers did stands.

The problem is Bobby you post so much Dumb AZZ SCHITT that sometimes we miss something.

Frankly, your post proves that you have no sense of honor, not even when talking about LODD's could you keep your ignorant, pathetic, comments to yourself.

Please for once, shut up and go away.

Thank you. You stated what I could not. I have my own issues with some of the politics surrounding this issue, but this is not the forum to express them.

I have the utmost respect for the firefighters in West, TX who (IMO) had two strikes against them (due to the political climate) from the start.

    On a more productive note...

Has anyone heard anything about the progress of the investigation? Anything from OSHA or NIOSH?
