The City of Reading is testing for Paramedic/Firefighters. Please see the link below for more information.

Any chance of moving from the ambulance to a engine/truck company? Or are you strictly EMS for your career? How does that work?

The current process allows for those that are hired to work overtime on suppression apparatus. All medics complete a full fire academy program.

There may be changes in the near future to allow medics to cross over. Nothing is concrete and I can't speculate what those changes will be.

Are they testing for regular firefighters to or just paramedic/firefighters?

Only testing for Paramedic/Firefighters to establish an eligibility list since the previous was exhausted.

The current FF/EMT list is still active.

Have any idea when the ff/emt list expires? On their website says the firefighter civil service list expires May 23, 2013

You're correct on the expiration, however, Civil Service has the ability to extend the list for an additional year which wouldn't be surprising since we're in "Act 47".

A lot of unknowns right now, best advice is to keep checking the site for the latest. I don't foresee any hiring for FF/EMT's in the next few years since the 2012 class replenished staffing levels and the 2013 class (the largest ever hired) is around for at least two years under a SAFER grant.
