Any chance the February class will also be on the larger side? Say 32 to 34 people?

Tthey should probably just go ahead and hire all 250 people that went to the final interview. That's just my opinion though.

    GRNFT,

Do they plan on filling all 109 positions through this hiring list?

No. We always run short here but that's extra short for us. I would think 2 more classes after this of 25 each.

Got the "thanks, but you are still being considered for future academies" email today from HR. Did anyone not get this email or get an email that said something else like "you are NOT being considered and are welcome to reapply" type of thing? Just curious.

I got the one that started like this...

"The Seattle Fire Department has extended Conditional Offers of Employment for the August 2014 Recruit Class. If you have not been contacted, please note that your name remains on the eligible hiring list for consideration for future classes hired from this list."

    Same as yours I assume.

    I can't believe you didn't get a conditional, BTW.

I got the same one. I was wondering if someone who failed psych or backgrounds completely got a different letter. I talked to a couple of my buddies who start in three weeks and they got the same letter. Just trying to crunch numbers.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I gave the hiring process everything I had and that's all I can do. It's Seattle's prerogative if they want to hire me or not. If not, I will be testing again in 2015 and I will not give up. October will be here before we know it. Until then I will keep on doing what I am doing. It will happen.

Looks like after the dust settled, they will go with 32 for this class. Will begin mid August. They'll start working on the Feb class after this one goes in.

    GRNFT,

Any reason they did not go with the full 35?

Yeah, I know two studs that could have filled those spots.

Not sure why they didn't. It could have been that they couldn't get folks through the process or that we train in 4 person companies and 32 is a nice easily divisible number.

    0321/8654 and William,

Don't give up the fight brothers, it is only a matter of time. 0321/8654, my only thoughts are, next time, don't identify who you are on the forums via your #1 placement and score. You clearly have oral boards down pat, I can't think of another reason.

Yeah, I didn't think about that until later. Lesson learned. Thank you.

Did anyone hear if they ever sent anything out about an EMT class?

Should be going out soon for a Sep start date IF you are lucky enough to be included in the class. N. Seattle and Bates have classes starting soon too that you CAN get into.

Talked to HR and they said 7 offers were sent out for EMT class a few weeks ago. I'm currently looking at the programs GRNFT mentioned and hope to get into one.

North Seattle CC has a great program. I just got my EMT from them in the Spring. Highly recommended.

A King County course is probably going to be the best bet because of it's focus on King County protocols. But I will say this, Bates has four instructors that are Tacoma Fire Medics and they are excellent at what they do. Food for thought.

Question for you guys. Once I complete the class do I need to take the NREMT or do I just need the class completion cert to show SFD?

If you get it in King County, you should be good. There are a few Seattle specific protocols (we are more hamstrung than King Co. EMTs). North Seattle is great, but can be tough to get in. Everett also teaches a class. It's not too hard to get EMT in WA and have it get reciprocity with SFD. If you get an NREMT they may make you take a test to get the reciprocity. I had to do that.

You can not get your state certification without getting your NREMT.

    EDIT:

"Initial EMS certification applicants must provide a copy of a course completion certificate/letter from a Department of Health approved EMS Training Program and the National Registry examination results for the certification level they are applying for."

This from WA DoH Initial Certification Application found here:
    http://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Docu...ubs/530060.pdf

To be clear, yes, you need to pass NREMT as well.
