Tampa Bay area here(not the one you're referring to). I signed up for the 6th, but I am thinking of moving up to the 4th.

It's been a while since I've interviewed. This first panel is 3 FF and a 15 minute series of typical civil service q&a. Time to brush up.

Hey GRNFT had a question regarding the oral interview. I understand that it is an entry level position, but do they ask any fire related questions, or are most of the questions about your morals and ethics?
    Thank you

General HR style questions. Nothing fire specific. But there is an opportunity to list your accomplishments/experiences/qualifications if you prepare smartly. Check out examples on the seattle.gov/fire page and look through the 2011 forum. There is some stuff in there.

    A quick outline is:
    15 minutes.
Unknown number of basic civil service questions. I'd guess 4-7.
No give/take, just answer the question and move on.
The board for the first interview will consist of three firefighters.
I know some people care, so I was told it's seated so probably best to practice for that.

What do you mean it's seated?

Seated as in I've had some interviews where you stand and some you sit. I was told this would be sitting and got the impression not too far away from the panel either. It really shouldn't make a difference (at least it doesn't to me) but I'd figure I'd throw it out there.

Oh gotcha.. They say anything on grading? I've heard that you have to hit certain check boxes on their grade sheet, not really an A/B conversation.. Appreciate the info

They said something about keywords in the 2011 thread, but nothing really at the orientation. Just make sure to repeat yourself across questions, your answers don't carry. It's a pretty formal department based on living in the city and my few visits to stations so classic civil service questions and old fashioned values. Take that for whatever it means to you.

    GRNFT,

Thanks for all the information you have provided. Do you know if the numbers for 2013 (personnel, responses, etc) will be posted soon?

They should be out shortly. I think we were just under 130,000 for the year. Right around 1000 ff at the moment. Probably a little short of 1000.
    Need to hire us some.

You couldn't have picked a more typical Seattle weather day either. Rain that isn't actually rain with clouds that aren't actually going to stay. :P
