That's supposed to say "see yas in Seattle" but thanks to auto correct and firehouse mobile I can't go back and edit it. That makes me unusually upset.

Passed!!!! Looks like I am booking another round trip ticket from Iraq to Seattle. Hopefully spring break doesn't jack up the ticket prices to bad.

I passed too. Six friends (that don't post here) all passed too. Haven't heard of any failures yet

Does anybody know if they took the top 25% from the first interview or was it pass or fail?

Also passed. Any idea of how many make it to the next round?

Looks like the cutoff was 67% so I have to assume many are moving to the second interview.

    Via the latest email:

"You have exceeded the minimum passing score for Oral Board #1 which was 67.000. Therefore, you can now be scheduled for the Oral Board Exam #2..."

I feel like the percent was determined by getting how many they wanted to move forward, just like with the written.

    Hey,
I have been reading through the 2011 Thread and I noticed a lot of people mentioning that Medical tends to eliminate a lot of guys who make it to the end. Does anybody know what exactly will disqualify someone? I figure that would be good to know now so if there is anything that can be done to correct it gets done ahead of time IE: Cholesterol/ Back problems/ BMI/ Vison?

    thanks

I just did a search of "medical" in that thread and didn't see much. There was a post of how they take more to the medical than they need but that is pretty standard because people do fail. No idea what the common failures are though. Pretty sure they use the NFPA 1582 along with your basic blood work and all that.

The NFPA is a good start, but everything is based off of the Washington Administrative Code. I believe it's Chapter 296. Where they may not list a specific test, say cholesterol, they will check it and disqualify based on heart issues if you are not within normal parameters.

Thanks GRNFT, for those looking for the sections about it as it is somewhat long. IMO better to just get there and let them tell you if you're good to go.

I the email while driving. I thought it said I got a 67 on the test. That was a horrible feeling. I then let my wife read it, who quickly assured me that I am retarded (and read it to me).

Seriously, did anyone not pass? Would love to here how many are in #2.

It's kind of a game now... lol... my count is up to 23 (non-forum) people I've talked to... no failures as of yet.

Is this in relation to the medical? I've read through NFPA 1932 and it's not too bad(section on candidates). Does this WA state link have medical info(didn't see it with the quick glance)? I'm not worried, just curious.

Does the second oral board consist of captains interviewing? Or a mixture like the first round?

I'm always a little worried with medicals. I don't ever doubt that I able to do the job but have been a T1 diabetic for 9 years tomorrow. Almost never is an instant DQ these days but I get to jump though a few extra hoops because of it.

I think the second board is a battalion chief and two captains but I'm not 100% sure on that. Would be a lot to staff that much if they ran the same number of boards at the same time.

I made it as well! Congrats to everyone moving on!

On a side note, does anybody who have made it this far not have their EMT cert yet? I am in this situation and I am trying to figure out how soon I should start taking classes to get it (currently in a full time job so it's a bit hard to find something with my schedule).

I don't. I plan on getting it Spring quarter which is the latest a normal session can be since earliest rumor you'll need it is August (also work full time). North Seattle Community College has a program but you need to go to a information session. They have one more on the 19th and then you have to take the entrance exam on the 26th. They only take the top 45 scores from that so study well what they tell you to during the information session.

If that doesn't work I've heard there are two week crash course sessions at places. I guess those are expensive though and who knows what you can really learn in 2 weeks. I'd only do that if I didn't get in to a normal program on time.
