If your an Explorer post, you don't "need" structural gear....sell it and use the money to buy the wildland gear. When you are allowed to fight fires...then get the structural gear."This thread is being closed as it is off-topic and not related to the fire industry." - Isn't that what the Off Duty forum was for?

I concur with the above, as explorers you do not need structual gear. You really don't even need full-fledged wildland gear. Some Nomex jackets and some hard-hats MAYBE.... but then again you can make due with those structual helmets, some jeans and cotton shirts//. You should not be anywhere on scene where you need full gear; you should either be a spectator or a go-fer-- but that going does not include into an area where you are at any risk of needing PPE-- and anything that you do outside of that, ie training, should be after the fire is extinguished.
Hell I am a probie senior and I don't even need half the gear I have, yet, and technically I am a peg above you.
By the way, if you are soliciting donations, it should not be through you, it should be through your chief. And as a point to note, if you are a 'Captain', your email should not be fire-chief... especially not fire-chief spelled incorrectly... since you are not a chief. It looks bad, and makes you sound more important than you really are.
My two-pennies worth.
