Thanks.I took the test back in 2011 and got a 100 but did not mean anything unless you had the vet or emt points.I hope they still keep the same extra points in the next exam.Im finishing up my emt cert now

Redrick, more then likely your rank changed. I think they look up your info by your ss#. A buddy sent Mr. Bertal a email with his name, DOB, and ss#. He got a reply within half hr. It might work for you as well.

    Evening,
From New York and don't know much about the hiring process within Philadelphia. Took the exam and stand in the high 100's. Could anyone fill me in on the hiring process and how I should stand in regards to hiring. How many are chosen for each class and how does the hiring process work. I am not a vet and only have extra points from certifications achieved. Any information in regards to the hiring process, academy and work schedule would be appreciated. Also and most importantly is this an achievable list number to be hired from. Appreciate the info and best of luck to all

Your rank is in the high 100's or your score is 100? From what I have been following on this thread, the top 400-450 rank #'s should get an interview. Again I am not certain of this. I believe their schedule is still 4/4. 2 10hr days, 2 14hr nights, 4 days off, repeat. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong. I believe the academy is still approximately 15-16 weeks long. Good luck and welcome to the thread.

This didn't seem right to me till I check with the PFD academy website, you are right. I couldn't believe they make you an EMT and FF in just 15 weeks. 6 weeks is awfully fast to take someone with no EMS experience and make them an EMT. 9 weeks also seems pretty short for a fire academy in a big city. Any idea if EMT's get to skip the EMS portion of the academy ?

no matter what your experience or certs you have to do phillys academy start to finish...no skipping. This is 100% accurate. Look at it as a great refresher, a good time to get in shape, to become familiar with the dept and to possibly help out a inexperienced fellow cadet.

The Academy is not 15-16 weeks. There is one tour of orientation, 9 tours of EMS and 10 tours of Fire/Other training. The total of 20 tours is about 23 calendar weeks.

Background check is similar to and conducted by the Phila. PD.

Fixxer thanks for the info. The information I had was off the website which is clearly outdated.

The Published List of Candidates has been generated. Your score is 85
and your rank on the eligible list is currently 31. Please be
advised that your rank may change as a result of appeals, submission
of claims for veteran's preference, removal of candidates from the
eligible list, or other actions that occur after the establishment of
    the original eligible list.
Your score has been credited with the following
    Vet Pref: Yes
    Legacy: No
City of Philadelphia Fire Service Paramedic: No
    Certification- Firefighter 1: No
    Certification- Emergency Medical Technician: No
Additional credit on scores is based on information available as of
the date of this notice. Please contact Hamid Bertal at: hamid.
bertal@phila.gov if you did not receive the additional credits that
you believe you are eligible to receive.

You must claim the additional EMT or Firefighter 1 credits within 30
days of the date of this notice.

The Eligible List for this examination will be established when the
first candidates are certified and scheduled for interviews. At that
time, the maximum two year duration of the eligible list will begin.
Candidates will have 30 days after the results have been mailed to
review the answer key and their answer sheet to ensure that it was
scored correctly. Candidates may make an appointment to review their
    answer sheets by calling 215-686-0880.
When we have sufficient vacancies to reach your rank on the eligible
list, you will be contacted by a human resources representative to
schedule an appointment for a job interview. If you inform the
representative that you choose not to interview, you will be
considered to have declined the position. Please be aware that
declining an interview or position on three separate occasions or
failing to respond to any invitation to be interviewed will result in
your name being removed from the eligible list.

You have the option to make yourself unavailable for job
opportunities in a specific department or departments, or for a
period of time. This must be done in writing, by printing and

We're all in the dark amigo. Best advice is to just sit and wait for an email like the rest of us. City is confusing as can possibly be.

Does anyone know if this list has been posted again since revision. I believe someone from the union posted it before. If they could post it again it would be much appreciated. Also, is the 2 year clock officially ticking?

Do they not feel there are enough veterans on the list? I don't understand why they would host another exam?
