Got my test date for 12-2-2013.

CPAT already done, I submitted it with my application as a document. What sort of things are on the written for those that have taken it already?

    Thanks and good luck

Written exam is this Monday and I'm too excited! I am also wondering whats on the written test, how should we dress and how long does the test take? I'm getting out of work for a little bit and my boss would like to know when I will be in.

I don't mean to offend anyone but from here on out we are competitors. So to ask for information about the written test, what kind of things you should be doing, what to wear to the test and / or interview, these are things that you should have been preparing for this entire time like most of us have. Study your material, business attire, and keep a level head and you all will do great. Good luck!

I just received an e-mail advising that I successfully completed the written exam. It also included a list of documents that must be submitted to the city by February 7.

probably not, especially in michigan where i live most departments require you to have FF1 FF11 and medic before even putting in an app, which you pay for. which means people like me already have ff11 and emt and working towards medic . Which plenty of applicants in michigan have as well sense we all know to get a job as a ff in mi you need medic, most of us are already trainined. I know we still have to go through the academy but still looks good on a app and in oral boards.

There are going to hire home grown before any out o staters. And no offense to out of staters, but chances are slim to none.

Z, I dont know where you get your information, but i would look into alternative sources. Everything you just said not only makes you sound ignorant, but is just wrong. DFD has people from ALL over the place. 10 or 12 out of staters that I know of. And I am sure there are plenty more. When i was in Charleston, SC testing they had 4 guys that used to work for Detroit but wanted to go back home to SC. I will agree that the vast majority of guys are from the Detroit area. But thats not because they are more qualified because they are from MI and have EMT. If you get an 83 on your written and a 79 on your oral, do you think they are more apt to hire you, or a guy from TN who scored 97 on his written and a 92 on his oral? They wont care if he doesnt have EMT. It says EMT PREFERRED, not REQUIRED. While the 15 extra pts for residency sounds like a death sentence for anyone outside of the D, (this is going to sound bad) in my experience, and from what I am hearing, most of the applicants actually from the city of Detroit don't have EMT or dont have FF1-2. Or possibly dont have EITHER. Now while this contradicts my point earlier. I firmly believe that the people who get the job the MAJORITY of the time are the people who have at least one of those credentials and have experience taking the FF exam, and actually WANT to be a FF and are not applying just because its a city job. While waiting for my written test there was 30 people there. 5-8 dressed like they wanted the job, the rest were dressed like they were waiting to be processed at booking at PD. I firmly believe everyone ... WHO REALLY WANTS IT ... has a solid shot. Good Luck everyone.

Ya but in detroit oral board and writtens pass fail. No score. Thats why im saying its hard for out of staters because say if an out of stater gets a 98 on written and mi gets 70 it doesnt matter bc it is pass fail. Not scored

And i do apologize. I did not mean that in a harsh tone by any means. Everybody has a shot. But do not turn ur last nickel to test detroit if you dont live here. Just my opinion. Ive tested in other states and i just did not like the attitude i was given in my oral board, i felt like i have been disadvantaged from the get go

I tested on 12-12 and out of 30 people it was the same for me. About 6 of us were in a shirt and tie. Still waiting on an email.
