    Default Fire facility grant

We are looking into building a fire facility for an entire county. It will have a burn room or fog machines and a class room. Which grants would we be eligible for?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, grants for "brick and mortar" projects are practically non- existent.

    That's not true. Every time I've found a hen's tooth, I have found a brick-and-mortar grant program!

USDA grant funding is capped at $50k in assistance regardless of the eligibility level. It's based off of Median Household Income of the area served, % unemployment, % poverty level, and total population with those under 5,000 receiving higher consideration.

The area served is normally calculated using the ZIP code, so if you share one with a larger area your stats will be skewed. You can request a GIS review and you can send them either voting tracts or coordinates defining the service area for a more accurate calculation. Top level is 75% grant or $50k whichever is lower. So even if you're at 75% on a $100k project, it's still $50k max. The remainder is through their loan program.

Nice part is everyone pretty much qualifies for the loan portion, and it's one application for both the loan and grant so you don't have to double up on the paperwork. If you qualify it's the way to fund that which AFG won't since the priorities are on the financials of the area, not the project. So you can do construction, vehicle refurb, and new equipment purchase all in one app. The laundry list rule doesn't apply.
