    Default 2013 AFG Workshop Schedule

In case you missed it, they have begun to post schedules for the 2013 AFG workshops. The dates are listed on the FEMA website at:

Usually comes out in parts since it takes a bit sometimes to get locations & dates set, then figure out which rep is going where.

Don't forget also that they are going to be putting out a webinar style workshop this year at some point. That will not occur until they get permission to release the FOA ( Program Guidance) which it is my understanding is in final approval mode. According to the posted schedule Region 9 (serving AZ, CA, NV, HI, Guam, Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands and American Samoa) will be done exclusively by webinar it appears. Looks like the State Fire Academies are going to get a bite at the apple this year also.

We got word from Region 5 that they will only be doing webinars only this year. Ther will be no on-site workshops at all for this region.

I am kind of glad to see them going to a webinar style of conducting these informational workshops. I think it will allow more departments to get the information, without the hassles, cost and time spent travelling to them.It should also be considerably less expensive in terms of administrative costs to the AFG program which should translate into more money being spent on the departments.

    Kurt,

Glad to see you still active on the board. In Maryland, we have scheduled 6 workshops that will be presented through a partnership with MFRI and MSFA. We have FEMA coming in tomorrow for a train-the-trainer and then we carry the program out to our own departments. Been working that way for 10 years now and we think very successful.

One of the many unpublicized effects of sequestration is a lack of funds for AFG workshops. Hopefully the webinar will be a worthy replacement.
Believed by many to be the best-administered homeland security grant in the country, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provides an accessible competitive opportunity for fire departments and non-affiliated EMS agencies across the US to get funding for a wide range of operations and safety, vehicles, and regional communications projects.
