Quirks in AFG Apps online....
Most of the reps that teach workshops for the past couple of years mention this stuff since several of us have brought it up over the years.
RIT SCBA: if you follow the app definition strictly RIT Pack is under Equipment not PPE. In the new format this means that you'd have to write a whole narrative about the RIT SCBA, separate from the SCBA you're requesting. Makes no sense and as many have found out recently, it will be scored separately and maybe not funded while the SCBA is. As such, request a 60min SCBA in the application's Request Details and put RIT SCBA in the description.
Training related to a non-vehicle request: If you're asking for FF1 or FF2 with bunker gear, Vehicle Rescue with HRTs, or anything else like the PG says it needs to be entered as Additional Funding, not as a Training item. Otherwise they get scored separately and might not get funded. I've had a few people get comments back from field reps saying that they put the training in Additional Funding and not in Training, which is why it was denied. This is from Page 12 of the 2011 PG: "Reminder: When requesting training for any equipment, enter the training funding request under Additional Funding in the Request Details section."
Page 30 in 2012 PG: "When requesting training for equipment, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, vehicles, EMS equipment, EMS personal protective equipment, or regional applications, your training request MUST be listed in the Other section under Additional Funding in the same category. For example, your department is requesting extrication equipment and you wish to receive formal training on the use of the new equipment. You would make this request in the line item area equipment but under Additional Funding, not Request Details Training."
If you want training and only training unrelated to equipment it goes under Training.
Just wanted to point this out since it seems to trip people up every year even though it's been out there for a couple of years if not longer.
Now back to SAFER apps....
