Helmets - More than protecting your Noggin
We all wear helmets and they do more than protecting your noggin. Many of us attach a flashlight or small tools (wood chocks, ext.)
For lighting, I use a small right angle flashlight (streamlight Poly Tac 90) mounted to the front of my helmet. I can rotate the light to shine it forward or down to my feet. The adjustability is great for extrication, patient care, venting a roof or even making the hydrant because I can adjust the light where I need it.
Inside my helmet I keep two ZipLock bags. One contains 6-8 EMS gloves and the other with a pen and small pad of paper. There have been many an extrication (we have limited manpower) where the crew needed to go from extrication to patient care. They needed switch from extrication to EMS gloves quickly. Inside the helmet is the best place I have found to keep EMS gloves.
Are there other ways you use your helmet other than protecting your noggin?
