    Default Volunteer Hiring Process/Other Questions

I was recently called back after a group interview with my local fire department in which I applied as a volunteer. Can anybody tell me what the process is after this? How quickly will I begin training and when will I be sent to fire academy to get certification? I was called Thursday September 5th, saying I will get a call very soon for an interview with the chief, but that I was accepted into their program. I am curious if I will start soon or in a few months because I am currently in my EMT Basic class and do not know if I should drop this or not since I do not know when my training at the fire house will start. I would assume that it's not a good idea to try and pursue both at the same time, especially while I am working a part-time job. Any help or comments would be appreciated. I'm a little lost on what is to come with this. I am very excited as well though.

    What state are you in?

Training will probably be dictated by the fire department

Sounds like you should finish emt

How much longer do you have???

Once they call you back for a sit down. Just explain that you work and are trying to finish your emt.

If they let you respond than go for it or maybe until you finish emt there are some things you can do around the station when you have time.

I think when they call you for a sit down explain that you will be out of emt in dec, and you would like to be a part of the dept in whatever capacity that you can be with the position you will complete any further training once emt is done

It's a volunteer fire department - they know that people work and must arrange other activities around that. It's the nature of the beast.

As has been mentioned, if they offer a spot, take it, and do what you can. More training will come with time. If they rely on regional resources for training, you may not be able to get into FF1 right away anyhow, and they're likely used to that, too. That may be the case if they do courses in-house as well.

Stick with it - you'll never regret it.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.
