Statter has this and a few early arrival videos.

Kind of ironic that they're 100 yards from the ocean, but can't get water.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

    Been there.

Previous VFD was located on the largest lake in the northeast. Had many situations where we had a house or camp fire 100' from the water but a 20' or 30' cliff or no access through the woods that prevented us from drafting.

Seems like a case of ignoring the 7 Ps as far as water supply goes.

Haven't listened to the dispatch tape, but the comments on Statter make it sound like a case of over-confidence by the first-due at the outset. Additional help was apparently refused early on, when a significant response might have made a difference.

over-confidence is going easy on him - sounded more like ego/turf war

Agreed, I would have been calling in the cavalry. That was one heck of a fire!

The first thing that the Chief of Company 45 needs to do is to relieve 45-10 of his position.

The second thing that the Chief of Company 45 needs to do is resign as Chief.

All I'll say for now is that it was a long afternoon/evening/morning and lots and lots of guys did some good hard work.
