    Default Exciting a "Hot shift" PTO hydraulic generator

    Need help guys,
    We have a 10kw Harrison hydraulic generator powered by a "hot shift" PTO. From what I understand is that the generator has fluid flowing thru it constantly due to the "hot shift" PTO allowing it to be used while the vehicle is stationary or in motion. Can I excite (turn on) the generator at any engine RPM or does it have to be under at certain RPM. In other words, can I excite the generator while doing 35 mph @ 1200 RPM's while driving down the road? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !!

    I hate to come off a smart azz in my response to your question, but I fear I will. How about looking at your operating manuals that came with the rig, or calling the manufacturer to ask them what their recommendations are? It would seem the answer to your question would be answered doing either one of those 2 things.

    This. Typically, you need to drop the engine RPMs below 1,000-ish before engaging a hot shift PTO. On the flip side, if you think there's a chance you'll need it before setting the parking brakes, turn it on before you leave the station.
