Odds are that's the 2012 award, or imagine this, the media got it wrong in the details. Nice part about the grants are that they're laws, can't break them from either side. So unless Detroit turned down the 2012 grant, they can't accept a 2013 since they were required to keep the staffing level on the 2012 award.

Not saying it isn't possible, but since it's all open records we'll be able to find out for sure soon enough.

That and like some other comments on the yahoo news story about this, calculated out to be $167k per FF. Seems a bit high.

The sorry thing about it is that it is not even about the fire service at all.. its another political favor payback. If they don't have it now, what makes anyone even remotely consider that they are going to have it in 2 years. You might as well say adios to those FFs that do get retained or rehired. Another political band-aid over a festering wound. Does anyone find it even remotely conspicuous that none of the Big 3 have so much as offered to step to the plate and offer a helping hand here even after their spectacular Federal bailout? Go figure.

Looks like grants staff isn't wasting any time getting back to business, Hiring app requested to send copies of layoff notices.

Question for the experts!! We received a call saying they were reviewing our 2013 SAFER and found we hadn't completed a close out on a previous grant and we needed to close it out. Should we be hopeful that we are at least still in the process?? As far as the close out, we knew about it and we were waiting on the help desk to fix a computer glitch that wouldn't allow us to close it out. It has since been fixed.

If they had "discovered that" it would mean that your grant had gone through peer review well and was probably being subjected to a "tech review" , which is usually the last check prior to announcing award. I would have to say that from my POV it appears you may be in for an award.

Sounds like 1199As aren't far behind then, they're usually pretty quick on the draw with SAFER since app count is lower than AFG.
