    Default Hey FWD!

I saw on another website that your old man is in the hospital.

My thoughts are with you and CE11!
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!

One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

Here's his most recent update from, um, social media. I redacted the names just in case.
As far as the onset of all this, his dad suffered a heart attack while in the ER.

I HAVE AWESOME NEWS TO REPORT: Visited Dad for about an hour and a half. The balloon pump has indeed been removed, however he is still intubated and sedated. But the good news is that tonight he was alert to my presence and was nodding his head yes and no to questions and comments I was making. I would ask him something, and then say "shake your head yes if you understand" and he indeed did several times. I put (wife) and the boys on speaker phone, and he really nodded his head yes when he heard (kid) say "I love you Grandpa!!!" Also, it appears that all communication issues with the Cardiologist have been resolved (we hope, knock on wood) they were due to him having the wrong phone number. This has been resolved, and see (wife)'s earlier post on my wall regarding him and the cardiac cath lab adventure. Dad has definitely turned for the better. They plan on extubating him tomorrow. Thank you all for your support and prayers. I think I may just be able to sleep well tonight

Hey Thanks everyone. This is the first time I have been here on FH.com in a long time. CE11 had his hip replaced on 9/17. Then on 9/19 we went down to Disney. CE11 got kicked loose from the hospital on Thurs 9/26. We fly home from Disney on Fri 9/27. We land at Philly and the wife and I turn on our cell phones to the news from my Ma. The old man was having chest pains in the AM, and she took him to the hospital. They triaged him, got him in the back and started a cardiac work up. The Doc saw something on the EKG that he was concerned with, but not jumping up and down over. Gave him nitro, and not 30 seconds later he coded right there on the spot. Whacked him three times, got him back and sent him up to the cardiac cath lab where he received a consolation prize of three new stents. He was intubated/sedated until tuesday when his blood clot time (was on coumadin due to the surgery) was improved enough to remove the balloon pump. He is home now, was released this past sunday. Thanks for the thoughts guys!!!

I'm glad he is improving. What a scary sequence of events. I guess, if you're going to code, doing it in the ER is probably the best place to do it. Still, wow..

He's been home for 2+ weeks now, and is back to being a pain in my azz- which means all is near normal. He's been cleared to drive, and is doing outpatient therapy for the hip, and I think when that's done he'll have to do a round of cardiac therapy. In the meantime, Mrs FWDbuff (a nurse) is going food-nazi on him and educating him in the error of his ways.......which he takes from her because he likes redheads......
