    Default The call we HATE!

As much as we love getting punched out to a working structure fire, there are those other dispatches that make us cringe (me at least). Like ringing alarm with water flow. That means that one of us in the back seat is going to be battling a fire sprinkler head. What tools do you guys use in your departments that work? There are a bunch of sprinkler tools out there and I'm curious to know what other professionals are using

    Thanks!

    Turn off the main valve

And open all drains that can be found

I've only been on a ladder a few dozen times in my career, so I know the ladder guys are gonna get stuck with that one.

There's this room, called the Riser Room.....You go into it, and find the main OS & Y valve, and turn the big wheel on it until it is closed.

We clip the pendent and drive in a dowl for a vast majority of them.
As far as shutting the sprinkler supply valve, of course a company will be assigned to just that. Still doesn't prevent gravity from sendind all the water in the system above you from finding your busted head. And before some know it all throws out "sprinkler drain", you have one on every floor?

Why not just use 2 wedges made from 3/4 inch pine? That way you don't have to cut the pendant. You just push one in from each side and away you go.

We have a bunch with a decorative trim piece that will, in many cases, not move up out of the way for wedges. But I agree, if that works, its quick!!

2 small wooden wedges always worked the best for me, after of course spending a few minutes watching the probie try and catch the water with a bucket.

24 or 25 years and never used a sprinkler stop. We just turn the water off.

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

    The call I hate:
