Default Moving to Colorado Springs. Paramedic testing.

I am a current paramedic student in Tulsa. I will be done with school in Feb. My question is, should I do my skills test in Oklahoma and then move, or move and then do my paramedic testing? Does anyone have any suggestions are services to work for or areas to live that are safe? I am a single female. Thanks.

I think that's a pretty broad spectrum. As far as services go, do you want to do fire or just ems? AMR does all 911 transports and CSFD does ALS first response. As far as places to live, it's a wide range so it might be pretty dependent on your financial situation. I'm from the springs and know the ins-and-outs. Let me know if you'd like my email.

You should be aware that the city has an RFP out for new ambulance service starting in 2014. AMR may or may not be the chosen provider. There is a possibility that there could be two providers, one for the city and one for the county. There are four separate ambulance services plus AMR: Fountain, Tri-Lakes and Black Forest fire agencies provide ALS service. Security fire contracts with Action Care (I think) out of Denver for service. It will be interesting to see how it all works out. As far as safe areas, there are several locations to stay away from in the Springs. Depending on where you find work will determine where you may want to live.
