Thumbs up Metro Helmet Shields to Traditional Helmets/Shields

    Hello all!

First off, this is not a debate on which helmet is better. In fact, I think almost anything having to do with helmets has been beaten into the ground on here....but..I had a question regarding switching from metro helmets to traditional helmets regarding the helmet shields.

We finally got the OK to wear traditional style helmets, but we currently use this kind of helmet/shield setup: (Not my fire dept, just an example of what we have now on the Chief in the pic.)

It's the only shields we have at the moment at the FD, and since we are a volunteer department, you never know what rig/apparatus you will be assigned.

Has anyone ever used these kind of helmet shields on traditional style helmets, or does anyone have any ideas/alternative solutions?

    Thanks guys!

You mean the plastic face shield? They make them for traditional helmets. If you mean the helmet shield with the mailbox numbers stuck to it in your pic, then you'll have to get a leather front for it.

Thanks! That's kind of what I figured. We've always used the mailbox type shields (velcro.)

I recall seeing somewhere a picture of a traditional helmet with a mailbox style velcro shield on it..but if I remember right it looked weird.

Then you are talking about the helmet front. Search this forum using the words "leather helmet front". There are tons of places that can design just about anything you want specific to the helmets you are purchasing.

I have been doing research and have found a ton of info so far. There's a member on my dept that's dead set on using the front mailbox type on the traditionals....not sure why. Haha

    Thanks again!
