    Default Safer Awards

Its looks as though the only awards so far have been Hiring awards? What is left to give out money wise, anyone know?

Last anyone's posted about finding was when I did on the 13th of Dec, haven't checked any myself since. Wouldn't be surprised if it's new since Jan 1st, but either way you shouldn't care, it's there. ;D

Finally got a chance to check, found these types of projects for R&R:

1st: PPC with marketing campaign money
2nd:PPC, marketing money, and a Project Coordinator Stipend
3rd: marketing money, wage reimbursement for attending training, pay per shift, end of year service awards
4th: pay per shift and coordinator's position

1 Update with no email for prior award winner, 2 updates for 1st timers, 1 just added to previous 1199A so doesn't look like much consistency in how the 1199A postings went.

Just heard on the news that Buxton Maine is getting $440,000 for hiring 4 FF/ Paramedics.
Politicians made their announcement today , so probably released on Friday.

Looks like some movement in the program. These will be the first full time employees other than the chief.

Of course they already acknowledge that at the end of the 2 year government tit, they don't know what will happen or where funding to continue the jobs will come from.

This link to a well written story from the sunday paper.

    Here we go again.
City to layoff 60 firefighters because the federal grant teat is going to run dry again.

FALL RIVER, Mass. — The city of Fall River finds itself in a familiar spot, facing the possibility of significant layoffs in the fire department.

Mayor Will Flanagan is warning of significant staff reductions. About one-third of the city's firefighters are on the chopping block. “I'm doing everything I can as mayor to prevent layoffs within the Fall River Department,” Flanagan told NBC 10 Monday.

Firefighters’ union president Jason Burns said, “It's a scary day. It's a scary thing.” This all started 5 years ago. A budget mess back then meant big cuts. The fire department was reduced to 153 firefighters in 2009. But temporary federal grant money brought the numbers back. Now that money is running out in June. The city has not added funding to the budget to replace the expiring grant money. “This is a difficult fiscal year for me,” Flanagan said. The mayor says 60 firefighters could be laid off and the department would be back to the smaller size of 153, down from the current 213.

They've had 5 years to figure out how to fund these needed positions locally.
    But it didn't happen.

Found a late-comer to the game -- 1199A showed up yesterday (for sure) for another R & R program for my station.
