Another round here, I am way too impatient for AFG. I got excited when i saw all of the FV awards last week, and hoped maybe we would see an 1199 soon. No such luck, I guess we will just have to keep drinking and praying something will come our way. I am hoping this will be our year, as I feel this is the best grant application we have written yet! If we dont hit one this year, I may just have to pony up the cash out of my own pocket to attend a class. Just cant get it through the rest of my departments head, sometimes you have to spend a little money to make a lot of money.

Trucks are tough no doubt. Just gotta be patient and have an "A-Game" application. If you need the class, give me a shout.

There is no doubt the class would help! I tried my hardest last year, and couldnt get the old farts on the department convinced it was a good use of our money. Hell i even tried to find a business to sponsor me for it, but no luck there either. If my wallet will allow, i am going to try to swing it out of my own personal money this year sometime. But for now, I will continue not so patiently waiting!

No, didn't even know about it until I wandered in here. That's to the south of us by a couple miles. Department may have gone, don't know. Since I got hurt in the Guard last year I haven't rejoined. New road going through so will be able to get to closest station in 3 minutes instead of 18 to the one I was assigned to before. No time yet anyway, running 2 companies doesn't leave much space for anything else.

    Default Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy

Since I'm still hanging out here at the bar I think I'll have a few Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy for the 4th of July weekend.

    Happy Birthday USA!

Have a safe holiday weekend and may your pagers stay quiet

Since I love bar conversation, here's a starter.

What happens if you point a thermal imaging camera at the sun? Does the camera burn out, will it give you an accurate temperature reading of, like, 5778 Kelvin, or what?

When should we figure we are out of the running if we didn't get a 1199A yet and also didn't get a DJ letter this week. I'm still trying to be positive.

It will still be quite a while before panel review denials are ready to go. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there will be many more 1199As issued as the money is dwindling.

Happy I made Peer again this year on this app but wish that it would get funded. Could really use my rescue tools replaced. I'm not getting any younger and our spreader seems to be getting heavier as the years go by. I think this year I'm really going to start writing a truck app. been shying away from it since I haven't even got a ops grant funded yet.

    Chief,

Judging by your website, you'll be even more disappointed if you bother writing for apparatus.

I would love to see peer review some day. I thought that writing a micro grant for PPE would at least get us by the computer. I guess no. Meanwhile a department that just paid cash for a $450,000 pumper/tanker can get through for TIC's to replace the last ones they got through a grant. When are they going to start asking for assets so that more is evaluated rather than just a "budget" that can be "adjusted" to show how poor you are?

I know what you mean by looking at the web site for us. Problem is that white truck is becoming a money pit we only bought it to use as a rescue. only thing it has going for it is the compartment space we use for our rescue tools. Almost didn't make it thru testing this year had to do lots of work on it to get the sticker. And the older engine looks nice from a distance till you climb underneath it and look at the frame that is falling apart and all the rust on the body, but I will say it is one pumping fool of a truck. I know that newer truck is the one that kills us in the ratings but at the time we had to buy it and still paying for it. We lost a truck in a accident it was put in a ditch and for some reason before my time with the department it wasn't replaced with insurance money. Just my little rant thanks for listening. I know there are others out there that need it more than us and I agree that they should get it just kills me when departments with million dollar budgets get funded before us who have to do fund raiser after fundraiser to get what we have.

Default Another week, another round bartender...

Will no computer DJ and no 1099 - so I'll have another round! Really could use a new set of rescue tools to replace 25 year old set.

Default Things that make you go huh?

So checking my usual sources for grant opportunities and see this:

    DOI
    Department of the Interior
    National Park Service
National Park Service-Professional Education Program for Afghan Cultural Heritage Conservation
    Grant
    http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/vie...l?oppId=260511

Could someone please explain to me why the US National Park Service is paying the University of Az $98K to work on historical archaeological sites in Afghanistan? Are our own National Parks not in dire need of funding to maintain basic daily operations or to effect repairs? I thought it was the United States National Park Service..not the Afghanistan National Park Service. Geez Louise.. and they wonder why I get so P.O.d at the utter and complete incompetence. Once again, expending my tax dollars for people who DO NOT WANT US IN THEIR COUNTRY and we are spending money that should be being used here in the US.This is not diplomacy, this is not humanitarian aid, this is greasing someone's palm at U of AZ!

Barkeep, a round of top shelf for everyone on me. Just got the call that daddy's little girl got into the top rated Charter School in the region, and boy gets to go next year automatically. And doesn't cost me any more money since the school taxes we already pay cover it!
