AFG Turndown Letters
So when will they start issuing turn down letters? I know peer review starts mid February, but I figure the grants have already been computer graded.
I wrote and received the grant in 2002 (Firefighter Operations and Firefighter Safety) and 2003 (Vehicle Acquisition) for our small department and made it to the final round in 2010.
got while before that happens
A long while..............middle of the summer
So... the one's that don't make it through computer scoring still won't know anything for a while? I wasn't exactly sure how it would happen.
No, they send out a dozen or so rounds of awards minimum before there are any denial emails sent.
AFG grants haven't even been through peer review yet.
Last year wasn't peer much sooner after the deadline for submission? Understanding nothing gets done over the Christmas/New Years holiday, why else is it taking so long this year to get to peer? I do understand SAFER was still in progress, but I don't understand their scheduling process. Not saying it's bad, I just don't understand!

All had a bearing on why the peer review took longer to get to this year. The main reason for all of the above was still the ridiculous bickering in Congress and the government shutdown.
The peer review start Feb the 10 of 2014. Also they took longer because the AFG staff wasn't sure if congress was going to pass the budget for this year.
and Grant Criteria Committee met Jan 7-9 at the NFA so all the AFG staff was there for that meeting as well as the prep before and after. This is when the rules/priority for the next year of grants is designed by the alphabet groups (IAFC, IAFF, ISFSI, NVFC, NFPA, CFSI, NAFTD etc)
