Default City of Baltimore EMT-B/EMT-P 2014

Looks like Baltimore is hiring for EMT-B and EMT-P. Looking over the job description under Supplemental Information it states "During the initial training period at the Fire Academy EMTS must obtain and maintain the following: 1. Maryland Fire Service Professional Qualification Board Firefighter 1 certification. 2. Maryland Fire Service Professional Qualification Board Responders to Hazardous Material Operations certificate."

Does this mean this is a hiring process for firefighter as well? are the EMS and Fire devisions seperate entities with Baltimore?

Looking into applying for that job myself, kind of had the same question as to why I needed Fire 1 (which I already have) for just an EMT job

I personally dont want to apply if its an EMT job only. But they want you to maintain a fire cert? I wonder if that means when they have a hiring process for firefighters they consider their EMT applicants/employees first? Because if thats the case its beneficial to apply.

I'm with you TowerRescue, I'd hate to have to go through a fire academy just to be put on an ambulance. Maybe someone on here as more insight, my guess would be to try HR but they may not be able to say anything.

I heard that they are heavy on the suppression side but that in the future the emt's may have the opportunity to move across to the suppression side as spots open up.

if you want to get your foot in the door as a baltimore firefighter, then you should apply. there is a reason why the want you to get firefighter 1 folks. think about it.

Received an email yesterday about being placed on an eligibility list. Just out of curiously, does anyone know if this list is publicly posted?

I got an email saying I was on the eligible list. My email said it was an Open/Unranked eligibility list. I'd call HR to if you have bat questions.

Must have read over that, thank you. Left HR a message a few days ago anyways and haven't heard back from them yet.
