    Default Question about TCFP application

    I have completed Fire Academy and EMT-B course, but have not passed the national registry yet (did great in school...I must have problems with tests :/ ).

    Yesterday, I got a call from the Chief of a Fire Department I tried out for awhile back saying that he will have an opening at the end of the month and I am next in line for employment.

    The Fire Department does not require you to be an EMT for employment, but you must have your fire commission. I do not I have my commission, but the chief said my EMT course completion would count for the TCFP's medical training, however, he wasn't 100% certain.

    I cannot get a hold of anyone at the TCFP at the moment, and I was wondering if any of you knew if the EMT course alone will get my fire commission, or do I have to pass my national registry in order to apply for my commission?

    Of course I'm going to keep studying and taking the test, but would like to get my commission to be eligible for hire.

    For more information regarding the commission's fire protection personnel certification programs, please contact Tim Rutland, program supervisor by e-mail or by calling (512) 936-3825. The certification section's main number is (512) 936-3829.

    (c) Prior to being appointed to fire suppression duties, personnel must complete a Commission-approved basic structure fire suppression program and successfully complete a Commission recognized emergency medical course. The individual must successfully pass the Commission examination pertaining to that curriculum as required by 423.3 of this title. The Commission recognizes the following emergency medical training:
    (1) Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Service Personnel certification training;
    (2) an American Red Cross Emergency Response course, including the optional lessons and enrichment sections;
    (3) an American Safety and Health Institute First Responder course;
    (4) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification; or
    (5) medical training deemed equivalent by the Commission.

    Suggest you contact them anyway

    Get paperwork started unless the Chief will hire you and get you blessed afterwards

    I'm trying. Yes, I have completed fire school and EMT-B. The only thing I know of that is holding me up right now is the National Registry.

    They're kind of vague. I've asked "what is medical training deemed equivalent by the Commission" to the commission before...and I did not get an actual answer.

    The state use to accept ECA for medical , I think that is what number 2 is.

    So if they do and you can test for that level, that will make tcfp happy

    I finally got a hold of someone at TCFP that specializes in certifications.
    I told him my situation and he said the EMT course completion alone will qualify me to get my commision in Texas
