    Post Fire Safety Trailer

    Hello all,

Has anybody had success over the past few years in getting a Fire Safety Trailer funded? I am working on it for this year and would like to hear about successes or failures and any buzz words or topics that must be included in the application. I have ours just about written and wanted to essentially compare notes if anyone is interested?

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Rob

We bought one and hardly used it, mainly to lack of people to run it and events to take it to

Any other depts in area that you would allow to use it?

Ours was suppose to be set up as a command post but never used it for that

    Two ideas

As a friendly reminder, Command Center Packages on Fire Safety Trailers are ineligible.

Really aren't any buzzwords for it. Main things they look for are the same as every other project: where is the nearest similar capability, how often it's going to get used, and how well integrated into the region it will be with your partner organizations. Basically if there's one within 30 miles of you already it's a tough uphill battle, with priorities going to those replacing older units still, same as AFG.

So as long as you have a long list of places it's going to go to hit larger populations of under 14 and over 65, it's probably got a good shot if you and the neighbors are doing it together and you have a lot of Public Safety Educators certified to talk about. Like asking for extrication tools with no Extrication Technicians, if no one is trained and you're not asking for the training, the equipment is useless. It's even more critical in FP&S since training the general public is a whole different world than training FFs.

You will need a really strong discussion on the reasons you need this.
Do you have stats of your target audience and how you plan to get this training out to them?
How many instructors will you have that are willing to take out to any community event of more than a few folks that request it.
How will you tow it? department vehicle or POV?
Not just for fire safety week , but how you plan to promote to the target audience on an ongoing basis all year long.

I know of a couple of these units awarded that get pulled out of the barn a couple times per year and that s not enough to justify having it take up space in the bay, much less getting an award.

Look at your cost/ benefit argument and make sure it makes sense to you and to others. Quantifying that is a tough thing. XXXXX amount of $$$$$ x XXXXX many folks given the program per year = XXX people possibly saved from injury or death in structure fires.

Tie it in with education materials needed and possibly an ongoing smoke detector program.

Don't forget how you are going to justify the need for the trailer in the first place and also how you are going to prove your effectiveness on evaluation.
