    Default Looking for some advice.

Well today I got the "thanks but try again next year call". This makes the 5th department I have applied to and not gotten an offer since I got my paramedic.

A little about me I have been a fire volunteer for 7 years I have Pro board FF/1 FF/2 Instructor 1, DPO and a bunch of other HTR type classes. I graduated this past April with a AAS in paramedic also have all the little merit badge classes ACLS PALS etc.

Since then I have been working for a local county as a ALS EMS provider and doing a transport job as well.
I have been told by interview panels that my interviews have been solid. I don't get nervous and answer questions confidently.

My question is this what am I missing? Is it education, experience, or something else? Just looking for some advice on what I can do to improve my chances. Its definitely disheartening after all this time and work I have done.

It varies anywhere from 10 to 30 openings. As for how many apply I have no clue. Some of the jobs required paramedic to apply so that may lessen the applicants.

Driving record is good + 5 points last infraction was a speeding ticket in 2006, no criminal record. As for drugs have smoke marijuana like 3 times when I was in high school

Giving the "right" answers is only part of it. I need to see someone who is confident in their responses. I recently conducted a hiring process for firefighter/Paramedic. I narrowed it down from 145 original applicants to 17. Any of these top candidates have demonstrated that they have the skill level (Paramedic practical exam) and that they have what it takes to fit into the organization. Simply because they have a paramedic license does not mean they are what we are looking for in a Firefighter/Paramedic.

I was very disappointed to hear how some of the candidates would handle certain situations. We expect our Paramedics to be patient care advocates and to step up when something is not right, regardless of how much seniority a member has and how unpopular the decision will be.

My book, "Smoke Your Firefighter Interview" will likely be of great interest to you. I guarantee you will look at the interview in a completely different light.
    Good luck to you!
