Default Occupancy Load Signs in Bowling Alleys

    Hey everyone,

I am a fire inspector in Ohio & was wondering if occupancy load signs are required for bowling alleys. If anyone has seen other bowling alley centers with occupancy load signs, please let me know. The owner says that he has not seen any signs in other bowling alleys. If anyone knows more about this, please get back to me asap. Thanks & be safe, and appreciate you taking the time to help out.

does your city have a building code or fie code adopted?? If so what and and which edition??

    Yes they are required

a bowling alley is considered a place of assembly

    from 2009 ibc

1004.3 Posting of occupant load. Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the occupant load of the room or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Posted signs shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained by the owner or authorized agent.

    same as in 2009 IFC

1004.3 Posting of occupant load. Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the occupant load of the room or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Posted signs shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained by the owner or authorized agent.

Being a bowling alley has nothing to do with it.

"Bowling Alley" is specifically mentioned in both the IFC and the IBC. It's not a bowling alley- it's an A-3 and yes, it's required to have the loads posted.
