    Default Questions regarding background check

Hi my name is Roger and I am new to this forum. I have a question regarding the hiring process. I have a couple of marks on my background. One, I got busted for pot a couple years ago but that record has been expunged and there are no criminal charges on my record. Second, I was an outstanding employee at my first job waiting tables for five years but was fired under new management for slapping a girls ***, even though it was mutual. I left without notice from my next job, I just walked out because my GM and I really did not get along. All of my jobs since have been great. Am I hireable?

    about same comment, plus

unless the drug charge was as a minor, it can be found out

Plus on our apps, we ask if you have ever been arrested, so the sponge does not work here.

    do you have any certs???

how long ago did these three incidents happen??

some cities say we will not hire you if you ever used drugs

and some will say so many years prior we will hire you.

check different dept web sites to see if they list their disqualifiers.

Its discouraging that I cant use the fact that I havent used any mind or mood altering substances for two years now. And yes, i do have certs. I got my EMT - B cert in december but am not sure when I will do fire/paramedic. The drug charge was in 2010 and the two job incidents were in 2012. Do departments go as far to ask previous employers the reasons for termination

Good thing is you do have a little time on your side

Yes they do, and we ask reason why you left all your jobs

But, some employers will only say you worked from this day to this day and nothing else

    Check web sites for disqualifiers

You have not used since 2010,

But got a drug charge two years ago???

Do you mind saying what the drug charge was?

You might not get your dream dept but you might get on
Once that is done put in a few good years and start testing for other depts

I have made some bad decisions in the past, not many, but enough to get me popped once. I seriously regret this. And now that I am living a healthy lifestyle, I am faced with a decision - let the voices of fear that say "you will never get hired" guide me, or have some courage and pursue what I have always wanted to do. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

You need time to be your friend. When we do our backgrounds there has to be at least 10 years from your last use of a minor drug i.e. marijuana . Keep your nose clean and you can take as many test as you like but remember what fire49 has said.......check with the department you are testing for and see what their disqualifiers are.

Would you all suggest I be honest about the reasons I left my former jobs on applications and provide details?

You should always be truthful on all applications. If they ever ask..."Have you EVER" you need to put down your honest answer.
