    Default background question

Hello all, quick question. I have been aspiring to be a full time fire fighter, and have already taken a few tests. The only part of the process that worries me is the background part. I have a clean driving record, and no criminal background. The only thing Iím worried about is I smoke marijuana twice when I was in high school. That was back in 2008. I have been on a volunteer fire department for the past 2.5-3 years now and hold a ff1 and emt-b cert. I was just wondering if smoking those two times is enough for departments to turn me away; or if they can look past that. I intend to be straight forward and honest with them. Thanks.

    What state are you in??

    How old are you

You will need to check each depts web site to see if they list their disqualifiers

You have two things on your side time and hopefully a good work history

If that is all, you have a good chance.
Stay out of any type of trouble and test everywhere and often. Do not set your sights on certain depts only

If I were to say, putting down you had never smoked pot would bring up a lot of questions. Our last three presidents couldn't have been in the secret service because of drug use. I wouldn't worry about it and the more important thing is what you have done since then. Keep doing all of the good stuff you are doing and you shouldn't have any problems.
    Good Luck, Capt Rob

You need time on your side and a clean record from here on out. I wouldn't worry about the marijuana usage as long as if they ask "Have you ever used drugs" your truthful. If you are not and they find out....your toast. Good Luck....

Smoking pot twice will not disqualify you. As has been stated above, be honest and truthful. Don't ever do it again, especially now that you have decided you want to become a firefighter. You cannot change the past, but you certainly have control over YOUR future. Do not compromise it in any way!

    Best of luck to you!!
