    We have and use a K-Tool. It's worked effectively and the times it didn't work, it was operator error. Another option for the dead bolt is to use channel locks and unscrew the keyed portion on the exterior.

    Use the method(s) that's best indicated for your situation. I agree with the thought process that the small hole won't effect your air tract management, especially when the fire's away from the location of the hole. Definitely close the door behind you to control/manage the air tract.

    Remember, a sign (one of many) of a good Truckee is to be able to get inside without doing more damage than needed (ideally, the occupant doesn't know you were there).

    Ya, but ole Kelly would have been just another Doc without Joe Early at his side. (And having Dixie around didn't hurt either)
