Default Cairns 1010/1044. VS. Bullard USTs

    So here's the story.

My department is looking into brand new turn out gear from head to toe. And Bullard helmets has been mentioned more then once. As I've been doing research I'm starting to dislike these helmets more and more.

As a aspect being not only have I been a cairns nut sense the day I started. But if the department goes with bullard I will either half to deal with it or invest me another personal helmet.

So in a comparison with say the Cairns 1044 & the Bullard USTs witch is better in
Weight, performance, durability, impact cap, and so on?

Personally I believe they are both good helmets.

My son has had a UST for almost 5 years and it has served him very well. It has held up to the abuse of everyday use and being subjected to repeated fires as an instructor doing live fire training.

My last helmet on my career FD was a Cairns 1044 with the eye protection that went up inside the helmet. It was a comfortable helmet, it fit well and it wasn't any heavier than anything else I had worn previously.

The one advantage the UST has over others on the market is the price.

I like the Cairns 1044 defender just because of the traditional look but its far heavier.

Um, the UST is Bullard's traditional styled helmet.

Before I bought my first leather lid, I had my custom painted Cairns 1010 stolen out of the rig while at a medical call. The FD replaced it with a Bullard UST... and I absolutely disliked, hated, loathed, despised and abhorred it. It was the most uncomfortable POS lid I ever had. I bought my Cairns leather after wearing the Bullard for less than a month.

I guess I will soon have my own opinion of the Bullard UST since my #1 POC FD just bought everyone on the FD one. Mine will be a beautiful lemon yellow lieutenant helmet. I hate to retire my black Chieftan, that was the lightest most comfortable traditional helmet I have ever owned.
