They sure don't make it easy for a nonresident to get an application in. Lol. Anybody want to pick one up for me? On a serious note, I imagine the turn out for this is going to be astronomical.

WB its a FireTeam test but they will let you submit your scores from previous trips to NTN.

Was hoping NREMT was sufficient but only current CA EMT certs are accepted. The only way to obtain reciprocity having NREMT is to be sponsored by a local EMS/Fire agency in CA.

I really don't understand this. I emailed about it and was just told to read the bulletin links which I already had and it's standard that to have a state cert you need to be sponsored through an agency. I see no reason NREMT should hold you back since if you get the job SFFD sponsors you. Really, as I see it, is it is a way to cut all non Californian applicants.

"2. Emergency Medical Technician Certification: Candidates must possess a current, valid Emergency Medical Technician - 1 Certification (EMT-1) issued by the State of California to be named on the eligible list. Verification of this certificate must be submitted via fax to 415.557.4967 or sent via email to rebecca.benoza@sfgov.org. Candidates must be able to accredit with the local EMS Authority within the one-year probationary period. Candidates who currently hold an EMT-1 certificate issued by the National Registry may find information about transferring EMT certification to California at http://www.emsa.ca.gov/emt_frequently_asked_questions ."

I read that as if you have a NREMT you must be able to get it transferred into a CA EMT within your first year.

    Anyone think different?

NREMT is the national cert that allows you to apply to any state in the US. You must have a Ca EMT to get on the list. That means you have to apply to the state of Ca. Then get San fransico county EMT cert. You can not apply with NREMT.

Take your NREMT cert and apply with a copy to state EMS agency and they check a couple things and then send you the state cert. It's not to difficult.

Also, there is no residency requirement for SFFD, I know of several guys who commute several hours.

Any ideas/rumors about projected tower dates or number of hires?

Has anybody been able to navigate the San Francisco gov website or talked to SFFD personnel to see about projected academies or amount of recruits they are looking at hiring? I'm having a tough time finding any info.

SFFD is only establishing an eligibility list. This means that once you have taken your test and fulfilled minimum requirements for application - your name is put on too a list. Once SFFD decides they want to conduct interviews for hiring they will look to this list.

When interviews will be conducted- is a great question. Since this announcement states that it is a continuous application period, I would imagine they will not be hiring for a little while.

This just means that we can all work on your resumes, and fulfill some of the key points they are hiring based off of which is stated on the official announcement:

    Firefighter 1 certificate
    EMT or Paramedic
    Associates degree Fire science
    State Fire Marshall Courses
    Fire/EMS experience
Active Community involvement (volunteering, community homeless shelter etc..)
    Second language

Hope this helps and good luck to everyone.

SFFD doesn't do interviews unless they are changing that.

Any idea when they plan on having an academy? How many they plan on hiring. I sent over my national test score and emailed HR my EMT she requested. Just trying to get an idea of a timeline.

They definitely do interviewing, that is an essential part of the hiring process. Where did you get that information?

Got an email today from HR confirming she got the copy of my EMT. Anyone know what's next? How long until we know anything? What has happened in the past? Thanks
