Default Anyone have trouble with spirometry tests?

So I have taken spirometry tests in the past and can't pass them. I'm 28 don't smoke and don't have asthma. They ask to blow for 6 seconds but can only make it about halfway. I am in shape and run 10-12 miles a week. Does anyone have any techniques that help them pass? I'm taking a medical for my dream department and don't want this test to get me knocked out of the process. Anyone have similar problems?? I have been cleared by my personal doctor but I'm sure I will still have to pass with the departments physician that I am testing with.

    Blow up balloons??

What does the test giver say???

Just keep blowing, even if you think no air is moving

They told me I have small lung capacity, about the same a 70 year old person. Makes no sense to me.

I bought a powerlung so I'm hoping that will help with my capacity, but I'm thinking it's more of my technique just seeing what others on here have experienced.

Yep just keep blowing even though you do not feel anything is coming out,

Try some underwater swimming and holding your breath

Yes for both, but have a buddy when doing breath holds. Shallow water blackout can kill.

What are your thoughts on the PowerLung? I think my lungs aren't great either so I'm looking into getting this. Looks like the Trainer would be most appropriate...it's $120 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/PowerLung-TRAI...ords=powerlung.

I bought the blue one which is the sport. It was hard at first but it has been helping quite a bit with stamina at the gym. Some people say it doesn't help with tidal volume .. But I have noticed a difference in my breathing while running. I say it is worth it.

Get a stop watch and time holding your breath after inhaling and exhaling quick three times. Your exhale can last as long if not longer than holding breath also biggest mistake is blowing out air to fast there are a couple of different machine most common is ball or computerized that will tell if not blowing hard enough but that doesn't help to prepare

Well I took my test and passed with above average results! Either the first test when I failed wasn't calibrated right or the power lung helped out a great deal!

    Congrats you passed

Seems like we step up when we need to

I had to do a rope climb, and never had done one before, but somehow I made it
