Default Unaffiliated member in wildland fire training

I'm attending the VA Department of Forestry's fall fire academy for a few days to take S130/190. I was told to bring a nomex shirt/pants, a hard hat, and gloves. Can anyone reccommend any economical products? I am buying this out of pocket since I have no department of my own.

    I'll take any tips too.

For hard hat and gloves check the hardware stores

Northern , granger, Home Depot, lowes etc

Did they give you any specs to meet?? For above and shirt pants???

They didn't, though I'd imagine they'd have to be NFPA 1977 compliant. I'm not sure what all is involved in the practical portion of S130/190, but if hiking or a simulated burn is involved, I'm sure they will be more strict on the issue.

I would find out for sure if it has to be nfpa compliant first. Once you do that you can always check ebay. I put myself through firefighting one and two so I bought all of my gear off ebay to get me through the class. Also contact the academy for advice. I later found out that the career center I did my training at was affiliated with the local fire department (their training division chief was our instructor) so he had all kinds of spare gear available to use for the class so maybe they have resources available. If all else fails you might just have to bite the bullet and buy new.
